Current position and professional activity I am currently working at Borders General Hospital as an attending physician in the Pneumology service, where I perform clinical intervention with adult respiratory patients and combine my clinical practice with lecturing as Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. Research activity and scientific output My main line of research focuses on the pathophysiology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, specifically with an interest in the systemic effects of the disease and more specifically the mechanisms related to the loss of peripheral muscle mass and muscle dysfunction, their impact on the ability to exercise and perform physical activity, as well as strategies aimed at improving these aspects. Among these, with a special interest in physical training in the context of a pulmonary rehabilitation programme. I have participated in numerous funded research projects, being PI in some of them. Diana Domingo Valero, MD |
1. Current location and professional activity I am currently working at the Hospital Universitario y Politécnico La Fe in Valencia as a Specialist Cardiology Physician. My clinical activity is centred on the Complex Valvulopathy and Infective Endocarditis Unit, as well as maintaining close links with the Familial Cardiopathies and Sudden Cardiac Death Unit. I combine my healthcare work with an intense training activity as a teaching collaborator at the University of Valencia since 2012, actively participating in the training of residents and students. In this sense, since 2024 I have been a tutor for residents. In addition, I am part of the Clinical Simulation Unit of the Hospital La Fe, holding the title of Simulation Instructor and carrying out advanced simulation training for first and second year residents at the Hospital Universitario y Politécnico La Fe. 2. Academic training and specialisation I have a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia (2007), with specialised training via MIR in Cardiology at La Fe Hospital (2008-2013). I have subsequently completed several master's degrees: Master's Degree in Diagnostic Imaging in Cardiology (2014), Master's Degree in Advances in Cardiology (2017) and Master's Degree in Acute Cardiac Care (2019). I also have a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a postgraduate degree in Medical Genetics. This training has allowed me to specialise in the comprehensive approach to patients. 3. Research activity and scientific production My research activity has focused on familial heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, sudden cardiac death and advanced cardiac imaging. I have participated in more than 10 nationally and internationally funded competitive research projects, some as principal investigator. I have published more than 20 scientific articles in JCR indexed journals, and I have been a speaker at multiple national and international conferences. |

Emilio Ansótegui Barrera. MD, PhD

1. Current location and professional activity I currently work at the IMED Hospital in Valencia as head of the Pneumology service where we provide specialised care in all aspects of pneumology. We perform respiratory techniques and have a complete pulmonary function laboratory. We are based in Valencia, Gandía and Denia. In addition, I am a lecturer at the Catholic University of Medicine where I teach clinical simulation seminars. 2. Academic background and specialisation I have a degree in Medicine from the University of Valladolid. I completed my specialist training in Pneumology at the Hospital La Fe (Valencia). I did a PhD in Experimental Medicine at the University of Elche, obtaining my PhD degree after reading my thesis entitled ‘Lymphangioleiomyomatosis and lung transplantation’ at the University of Valencia, which was graded as outstanding cum laude. 3. Research activity and scientific production I have participated in several articles on pneumological topics, particularly on respiratory infections, lung transplantation, cystic fibrosis and lung cancer. I have also collaborated in several research projects, including 2 projects of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. I have written several book chapters, given numerous lectures and participated in a large number of congresses and meetings in the speciality as a speaker and moderator. |

Current position and professional activity I currently work at the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe (Valencia) as a paediatrician in the Paediatric Pulmonology and Allergy Unit, where I provide clinical care to respiratory patients. I combine my clinical practice with teaching at the University of Valencia. 2. Academic training and specialisation Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia in 1992. Cristina Luna Pardo. MD |
1. Current Position and Professional Activity Currently working as a specialist in Pulmonology at the La Fe University and Polytechnic Hospital in Valencia, where I perform clinical interventions with patients with respiratory pathologies, both as an inpatient and outpatient. I also perform clinical ultrasound to assist with daily medical decision-making, as well as provide diagnostic and treatment guidance for benign and malignant pleural pathologies, and diagnostic-therapeutic flexible bronchoscopy. I also work 24-hour medical shifts, treating patients in the areas of pulmonology, thoracic surgery, and lung transplant. Mine is a university hospital, so my routine practice includes ongoing teaching with medical residents from all specialties who rotate through pulmonology, as well as medical students. I combine my teaching with classes at the University of Valencia as an associate professor and at the University of Lleida in the Master's Degree in Clinical Ultrasound. 2. Academic Background and Specialization I hold a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia, a Master's degree in Clinical Medicine from Camilo José Cela University, a Master's degree in Diagnosis and Treatment of Diffuse Pulmonary Diseases from UCAM, another Master's degree in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease from CEU, and a Master's degree in Clinical Ultrasound from the University of Lleida. I completed training placements, both nationally at the Jiménez Díaz Foundation in Madrid in Respiratory Endoscopy and Interventional Pulmonology for two months, and abroad, an observership in Interventional Pulmonology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts (United States) for two months. 3. Esteban Peiró Molina. MD, PhD |
1. Current Position and Professional Activity Paediatric cardiologist at the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe (Valencia) and physician at the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria La Fe, where I coordinate the cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and ergo-spirometry programme (IMPROVE). My clinical activity focuses on the management of paediatric patients with congenital heart disease, including interventional cardiology, rehabilitation and stress tests. I combine this work with teaching at the University of Valencia, where I teach seminars in the Master's Degree in Functional Recovery. 2. Beatriz Herrrero Cortina. PT, PhD |
1. Current Position and Professional Activity I am currently a Permanent Staff Member at Universidad San Jorge (Zaragoza), where I teach in both the Physiotherapy and Medicine undergraduate programs. Alongside my teaching duties, I actively collaborate with the Precision Medicine in Respiratory Diseases research group at the Aragón Health Research Institute (IIS Aragón), based at the Miguel Servet University Hospital. My research focuses primarily on self-management strategies for chronic hypersecretory patients and the evaluation of the measurement properties of the most appropriate tools to evaluate this target population. 2. Academic Background and Specialization I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy (2007) and a Bachelor's Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics (2011), both from the University of Zaragoza. I also earned an Official Master's Degree in Respiratory Medicine from the University of Barcelona (2012), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Respiratory and Cardiac Physiotherapy (ONCE, 2010). In 2020, I obtained my PhD from the University of Zaragoza, with International Distinction and cum laude honors. My academic training is further enriched by complementary courses in statistics and research methodology. 3. Research Activity and Scientific Production My research focuses on evaluating the long-term clinical benefits of interventions that support self-management in patients with muco-obstructive pulmonary diseases, with particular emphasis on therapeutic strategies aimed at airway clearance management in individuals with bronchiectasis. I also promote the study of measurement properties (validity, reliability, responsiveness, etc.) of the most commonly used assessment tools in respiratory field. I am the author of: 26 JCR-indexed scientific articles, serving as first or last author in 13 of them; 4 book chapters, both national and international, related to secretion drainage strategies; participation in over 14 funded research projects, acting as Principal Investigator in four; more than 80 presentations at national and international conferences; peer reviewer for several international JCR journals in the respiratory field. |

1. Current location and professional activity I currently work at the Ammma Integral Wellness, Nutrition and Training Centre as a physiotherapist in the cardiopulmonary and oncology rehabilitation unit, where I perform clinical intervention with cardiac, respiratory and adult oncology patients, and combine my clinical practice with teaching classes at the University of Deusto, being the Vice-Dean of Campus of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Principal Investigator of the Deusto Physical TherapIker Team. 2. Academic background and specialisation I have a degree in Physiotherapy from the Blanquerna - Ramón Llull University, a Master's degree in Respiratory Medicine and a PhD in Biomedicine from the Pompeu Fabra University. 3. Research activity and scientific production My main line of research focuses on the application of therapeutic exercise in chronic cardiopulmonary and oncological pathologies. Currently, I am the principal investigator of the Deusto Physical TherapIker Research Group and I lead two research projects. In my career as a researcher, I have participated in more than 10 funded projects, one of them international. I have participated in the direction of two doctoral theses that have already been completed, and I am currently directing five doctoral theses. Current position and professional activity I currently work at the Faculty of Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Podiatry at the Complutense University of Madrid as a professor, teacher, and researcher in the Department of Physiotherapy. 2. Academic training and specialization I have a degree in Physical Therapy from the San Pablo University, CEU, with a Master's Degree in Respiratory and Cardiac Physical Therapy and another in Respiratory Medicine Research. I have a PhD in Health Sciences from the University of Barcelona. 3. Research activity and scientific production I have carried out my research work as a member of the research group “GRUPO: OGS22. Research in Contemporary Physiotherapy (InPhysio)” (Research in Contemporary Physiotherapy) belonging to the Foundation for Biomedical Research at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos. As a result, a total of 38 articles have been published in peer-reviewed national and international scientific journals, all of which have an impact factor. In addition, I have contributed to three book chapters and coordinated two manuals. I have actively participated in various national and international conferences and congresses, both as a speaker and presenting poster presentations. In addition, I have been involved in six funded projects, one of which as Principal Investigator. Of particular note are the Young Investigator Award at the 34th European Cystic Fibrosis Conference, as well as the Honorable Mention and Publibeca obtained by the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR). |

1. Current Position and Professional Activity I am currently employed in the Department of Physiotherapy at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Granada, on the Melilla campus. My primary responsibilities involve teaching, mainly focused on physiotherapy for cardiorespiratory conditions. Additionally, I am a member of the CTS-009 research group based at the Granada campus, where we conduct research in several lines related to cardiorespiratory disorders. 2. Academic Background and Specialization I hold a degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Granada and a PhD in Physiotherapy under the Doctoral Program in Clinical Medicine and Public Health. My doctoral thesis focused on patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Subsequently, I completed a Master’s degree in Movement Disorders and Functional Impairment, as well as an official Master’s degree in Basic Neuroscience and Pain, both at the University of Granada. I am currently pursuing a lifelong learning Master’s degree in Pulmonary Function, offered by the Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) in collaboration with CEU San Pablo University in Madrid. 3. Research Activity and Scientific Production My primary line of research focuses on the multidisciplinary management of hospitalized patients with respiratory diseases, particularly those with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, pneumonia, and acute pulmonary embolism. I have participated in more than 10 national research projects, serving as Principal Investigator in 3 of them, all related to the management of populations with cardiorespiratory pathology or symptoms. Francisco José Ferrer Sargues. PT, PhD |
1. Current Position and Professional Activity I have over 10 years of specialized clinical experience in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, working with adult and pediatric patients in hospitals, where I participated in cardiac rehabilitation programs, as well as in private services focused on chronic respiratory and cardiovascular conditions. Since 2022, my professional dedication has been exclusively to teaching and research at the university, maintaining a clinical research line linked to the cardiopulmonary area that fosters continuous transfer between clinical practice and the academic field. I am currently an Associate Professor, accredited by the Canary Agency for University Quality. Since 2016, I have been teaching in the Department of Physiotherapy at CEU Cardenal Herrera University, focusing on cardiopulmonary physiotherapy. I have accumulated more than 4,000 teaching hours, with highly positive evaluations in the DOCENTIA system. I was awarded the Ángel Herrera Award for Best Teaching Performance (2023–2024) and have participated in nine Teaching Innovation projects, coordinating four, also receiving an Honorable Mention in the 2017–2018 Innovation Awards. Since 2022, my professional activity has been exclusively dedicated to university teaching and research, while maintaining a clinical research line closely linked to the cardiopulmonary field, ensuring the continuous transfer of knowledge between the clinical and academic domains. 2. Academic Background and Specialization My academic training began with a Degree in Physiotherapy at CEU Cardenal Herrera University (2009–2013), followed by postgraduate specialization in the cardiopulmonary field with a Master’s Degree in Chest Physiotherapy at Gimbernat University School (2013–2015) and a Master’s Degree in Functional Recovery in Physiotherapy at the University of Valencia (2018–2029). I completed my PhD studies in Physiotherapy at the University of Valencia (2017–2021). 3. Research Activity and Scientific Production As for my research profile, I have published 18 scientific articles in international journals indexed in WOS. I have participated as a collaborating researcher in three R+D+I projects funded in competitive calls, highlighting the recent award of the European project THCS Joint Transnational Call (Grant 101095654): Innovate to Prevent: Personalised Prevention in Health and Care Services. Project: Early hybrid rehabilitation in children and young adults with chronic disease: the QUALIREHAB program. I have received grants from the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Spanish Society of Cardiology for projects in which I am a collaborating researcher. I have presented more than 30 communications in different congresses and seminars of national and international importance in the cardio-respiratory field. Finally, I am the territorial contact for the Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) in the Valencian Community. I have supervised 25 students in their Master's Final Project and currently, and I have been co-director of 1 doctoral thesis defended in June 2025 and another one currently under development. I did a postdoctoral stay at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria during the month of May 2025 (Department of Physiotherapy, Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy Area). I collaborate with researchers from the international hospitals of Bordeaux (Bordeaux, France), Montpellier (Montpellier, France), Geneva (Switzerland) and national hospitals Virgen del Rocío (Seville), Donostia (Donostia), La Fe (Valencia), Manises (Valencia), Peset (Valencia), General (Castellón), Provincial (Castellón). My main lines of research include the effects of physiotherapy and physical exercise on paediatric congenital heart disease and acute myocardial infarction in the adult population. |

Laura Muelas Gómez. PT |
1. Current Position and Professional Activity I currently work at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital in Majadahonda (Madrid) as a physiotherapist in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department. I work specifically with hospitalized patients who are critically ill with cardiorespiratory problems in multiple areas, but predominantly in the Intensive Care Unit, as well as patients with chronic respiratory diseases in the pulmonology and rehabilitation units. I participate in the pre- and post-lung transplant programmes in these units. In addition to my clinical practice, I am a clinical practice instructor and teach classes for the Master's Degree in Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy at the ONCE University School of Physical Therapy, which is affiliated with the Autonoma University in Madrid. I have also given a seminar on cardiorespiratory conditions for the Master's Degree in Functional Recovery in Physiotherapy at the University of Valencia every year since 2016. Concurrently, since 2011, I have been teaching continuous training courses to hospital professionals to keep them updated on respiratory care for critically ill and hospitalised adult patients and respiratory physiotherapy. 2. Academic Background and Specialization I have a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from the Complutense University of Madrid and a Master's degree in Cardio-Respiratory Physiotherapy from the ONCE University School of Physical Therapy. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Health Care at the Complutense University of Madrid. I am a member of the Spanish Society of Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) and collaborate on the medical task force for pulmonary involvement in chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) following bone marrow transplantation. I have also assisted in creating educational lymphography images (www.separ.es/infografias-educativas) for the society. 3. Research Activity and Scientific Production My primary line of research focuses on respiratory muscle training and its application in adult lung transplant patients. I have worked closely with a leading group in the field of physical therapy at the Katholieke University of Leuven in Belgium on respiratory muscle training and have produced several scientific publications as a result of this work. |

Current position and professional activity I have more than 20 years of clinical experience specialising in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, treating adult patients in the Critical Care Unit at La Ribera University Hospital (Alzira, Valencia), both at the neuromuscular and respiratory levels. Since 2013, I have been an Associate Professor at CEU Cardenal Herrera University, teaching in the Department of Physiotherapy, focusing on cardiopulmonary physiotherapy and critical patients. I also combine my healthcare practice with teaching on the Master's Degree in Neurological Patient Rehabilitation (Catholic University of Valencia).
