He obtained his B.Sc. in Pharmacy in 1985 and his Ph.D. in Pharmacy in 1991 from the University of Valencia. He completed his doctoral research at the Instituto de Investigaciones Citológicas (Valencia). He subsequently carried out a five-year postdoctoral stay in the laboratory of Dr. Jean Gruenberg, first at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) (1991–1993) and later at the University of Geneva (1993–1996), where he held a teaching and research position as Maître Assistant. He rejoined the University of Valencia in 1996. Associate Professor (1998-2012) and Full Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology since 2012.
He leads the Protein Trafficking research group at the University of Valencia, whose research focuses on intracellular protein trafficking in plant cells, with particular emphasis on bidirectional protein transport between the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus mediated by COPI (Coat Protein I)- and COPII-coated vesicles. His research achievements include six nationally recognized research assessment periods ("sexenios"), supervision of 11 Ph.D. theses, and leadership as Principal Investigator of 15 competitive research projects, including nine funded under the Spanish National R&D Plan. He has published 45 Q1 journal articles and has received more than 4,000 citations according to the Web of Science, averaging over 60 citations per publication. Four of his publications were selected and evaluated by Faculty of 1000 Biology. One article was included among the Most Downloaded Articles in the journal Traffic (2013). Another article published in The Plant Cell ranks within the top 1% of highly cited papers in the field of Plant and Animal Sciences for its publication year, according to the Web of Science, and has received twelve times the average number of citations for comparable publications, according to Dimensions. He was awarded the Extraordinary Doctoral Award and the García Blanco Research Medal, presented jointly by the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Valencia and the Príncipe Felipe Research Center in recognition of outstanding scientific contributions by early-career researchers in the fields of Science and Biomedicine. |

Dr. Jose J. Sempere Monerris earned a degree in Economics with honors at the University of Valencia, a Master in Industrial Economics with distinction at the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) and a Ph. D. in Quantitative Economics (1995) under the European Doctoral Programme at CORE-UCL. He is Full Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Research Fellow at the ERI-CEs (University of Valencia) and Research Associate at CORE- UCL. He was a Visiting Associate Professor in the Strategy and Business Economics Division of the Sauder School of Business at the University British Columbia in Vancouver (Canada) from August 2010 to August 2011. During his PhD he got different scholarships from the Generalitat Valenciana, the College of Spain in Paris-Fundación Banco Exterior de España, and the Human Capital and Mobility Programme of the European Union (Currently Marie Curie Fellowships). His main research areas of interest include industrial economics, economics of innovation, transportation economics, networks and competition policy. He is co-author of more than thirty papers in specialist journals such as Applied Economics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Economics Letters, Economics of Innovation and New Technology, Journal of Economics , Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Southern Economic Journal, Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, Transportation Research Part B: Methodological, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review, Transport Policy among others. M.L. Gil graduated in Pharmacy at the University of Valencia (UV) in 1985. She received a PhD in 1989 for research on the identification of cell-wall proteins of Candida albicans at the Microbiology Department (UV). As a post-doctoral fellow she joined Didier Fradelizi Immunoloy laboratory at the Institute Gustave Roussy, in Paris. During the post-doctoral she graduated in Immunology at the Pasteur Institute and also participated in research that led to the identification of a new human leukocyte molecule (CD82). Back in Spain, in 1994, she was appointed as Assitant Professor, and in 1999, as Associate Professor, at the University of Valencia. In 2004 she started an independent research group that focused on the antifungal innate immunity and was promoted to Full Professor at the University of Valencia in 2011. Since her return to Spain, her research has focused on studying the pathogen/host interaction during candidiasis. In the first years, the research focused on the characterization of virulence factors of the fungus, then to address the study of the immune response, and specifically the participation of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) in the recognition of C. albicans, Since 2007, it has extended the study of the participation of TLRs in the interaction of C. albicans with the immune system, to hematopoietic stem cells, following the discovery that these cells express functional TLRs. Her main line of current research examines how the activation of PRRs in stem cells and hematopoietic progenitors, induces myeloid differentiation as well as in the implications in the phenotype of the macrophages they generate and in the protection against candidiasis; the results obtained show that the "memory" of innate immunity affects not only monocytes and macrophages but also the progenitors.

Jose Manuel Morante Redolat received his Bachelor's degree in Biology in 1999 and his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Valencia in 2006. He completed research stays at the National Institute on Aging (Bethesda, USA) and the Montreal Neurological Institute (Canada). After earning his PhD, he worked for two years as Head of R&D at the biotechnology company Sistemas Genómicos S.L. He then joined CIBERNED (Network Center for Biomedical Research on Neurodegenerative Diseases) as a postdoctoral researcher, where he spent eight years in the Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory led by Dr. Isabel Fariñas at the University of Valencia. He is currently Associate Professor (Profesor Titular) of Cell Biology in the Department of Cell Biology and Functional Biology at the University of Valencia. His teaching activities are mainly focused on the Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences, where he has served as Chair of the Academic Committee since the 2023–2024 academic year, and on the Master's Degree in Research and Development in Biotechnology and Biomedicine, where he is a member of the Academic Coordination Committee. He also provides specialized training in biological image analysis techniques through national and international courses. He currently conducts research at the Molecular Neurobiology Laboratory of the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (BIOTECMED) at the University of Valencia, where he studies the molecular mechanisms regulating neural stem cells and adult neurogenesis. He participates in regional, national, and international research projects. |
