The main objective of the New Green Transition Chair of the Universitat de València is to work on the implementation of ‘green policies’ in the tourism sector of the Valencian Community. Tourism constitutes one of the main economic sectors for the Valencian economy, hence the interest in focusing the Chair’s work on this sector, which will serve to extend reflection and action to other economic sectors.

Our objective is to promote analysis, reflection, dissemination, research and training in the area of actions that can help the sector adapt to a context marked by the post-Covid-19 pandemic and, in particular, to the demands of the fight against climate change. We must focus, precisely, on this context, in order to contribute to a more sustainable and competitive tourism sector.

In short, it is a matter of constituting a ‘think tank’ on the policies to be implemented in the sector, in order to face the necessary transition towards a green, more sustainable, productive model, taking into account that this covers a broad scope of policies, from labour policies to the impact on the habitat. As for the latter, we would like to highlight the great impact that the tourism is having on cities over the last few decades, but also the impact that this activity can have on rural and natural spaces.

We consider that, in such a current time, to take action around eco-sustainable approaches in areas which have already been developed, as well as in those habitats with a lower degree of tourism development in our Community, but which are beginning to take action in favour of this activity, is of great importance.
