Many of the members of GIEL participated in the international Seminar “The classroom as a research field for language teaching and learning”, which took place on 26 and 27 January 2017 at the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia.
The Seminar, coordinated by the Grup de Recerca en Educació, Llenguatge i Literatura (Departament de Didàctica de la llengua i la literatura, Facultat d’Educació, Traducció i Ciències Humanes), brought together important research groups on the didactics of language and literature of Catalonia (Autonomous University of Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra University, University of Barcelona and University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia, of the Valencian Community (Jaume I University and University of Valencia), of the Basque Country (University of the Basque Country and Mondragon University), of Castile and León (University of Valladolid), of Portugal (University of Minho, University of Aveiro, Polytechnic Institute of Leira and the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Setubal) and of the United Kingdom (University of Exeter).
The groups shared studies and reflections on the research carried out in the classroom in the field of the language and literature didactics. In the Seminar, two main objectives were set: present works on research in the classroom and their outcomes with regard to the teaching-learning process and present research on the teaching-learning of languages in sociolinguistic multilingual environments. Carmen Rodríguez and María José G. presented GIEL’s study “Teaching reading comprehension to novice teachers: self-confrontation and teacher discourse analysis”. The work “Projecte Pràcticum: una primera aproximació a l’ensenyament de llengües a les aules d’Infantil i Primària del País Valencià”, carried out by the Unitat per a l’educació multilingüe of the University of Valencia (UEM-UV) and in collaboration between Miquel Nicolàs Amorós, Adela Costa Català and Carmen Rodríguez Gonzalo was also presented. Furthermore, the GREAL group (UAB), with the intervention "Didactic sequences, grammar and self-regulation strategies for teaching writing", presented its current major research projects, in which members of the GIEL group also participate.
