The general coordinator of activities of the MESVAL Chair, professor Manuela Pardo, has given this Friday 24 April, for the second time, a training session aimed to approximately one hundred agents from the Local Police of València in the context of the training week hosted at the police headquarters.
The objective of this cascade training is to train the agents so they can be the ones who inform students of scholar centres of the city about the contents of the València + Segura programme. This way, the progressive dissemination model that characterises this ambitious plan of citizenship preparation in emergencies is consolidated, driven by València’s city council and by the Universitat de València through the MESVAL Chair.
During her intervention, professor Pardo reviewed the origins and basis of the plan, emphasising collective responsibility that everyone has at the time of creating a real culture of self-protection to emergencies. In this sense, the strategic role that people with a school-age play was highlighted in the programme:
“We are having influence in their values, in a key moment of their development. In addition, minors act as a transmission belt towards their families, bringing the message to their houses and broadening the scope of the plan beyond the classroom”, indicated.
The coordinator of the Chair also dedicated a relevant part of her intervention to the issue of misinformation, urging agents to emphasise, in their sessions with students, the risks of fake-news that are spread in emergency situations. In this regard, she recommended informing with clarity the importance of looking exclusively at official sources to obtain reliable information in moments of crisis.
Finally, Pardo encouraged agents to involve young people actively in the design of the family emergency plan, like the periodic maintenance of the home emergency kit, fostering its sense of responsibility and its real participation in the safety for families.
This second edition of the training to agents of the Local Police reinforces the commitment of the MESVAL Chair with the development of a prepared and resilient citizenship, and consolidates the collaboration between the Universitat de València and the security local bodies in the framework of the València + Segura plan.
