Carmen Martínez Alonso, a PhD student in the RiskTox group, conducted a research stay at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto under the supervision of Prof. Miguel Faria.

Between 16 April and 15 July 2025, PhD student Carmen Martínez Alonso completed a research stay at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (Portugal), under the supervision of Dr Faria. The project focused on studying the bioavailability and bioaccessibility of cyclopiazonic acid (CPA), a mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus and Penicillium species, using in vitro digestion models that simulate the human gastrointestinal tract (INFOGEST 2.0). During her stay, she carried out in vitro digestions and cell transport studies using Caco-2 and HT29-MTX cell lines to simulate intestinal absorption processes and evaluate associated toxicity.
