The University of Valencia has joined the joint action plan of the CRUE, the Ministries of Universities and of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration to provide a coordinated response to people of Afghan nationality who need assistance and help within the university environment. The diaspora of the Afghan people is a first level humanitarian crisis that requires launching initiatives to help the women of the Afghan people.
In this context, it is known that Afghan girls, adolescents and women are among the people who are going to suffer the most severely from the consequences of the implementation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and of Sharia as a fundamental law, in its most rigorous interpretation. A symbol, par excellence, of the regression that they are going to suffer is the loss of training opportunities at all educational levels. Access to education for girls and women is one of the greatest achievements of Afghan society in the last twenty years. It constitutes, without a doubt, the most powerful lever for equality. For this same reason, it will be one of the first rights that will be stripped.
Solidarity with refugees is an already consolidated priority in our institution. In order to prevent an entire generation of university women from being irretrievably lost in Afghanistan, the University of Valencia, at the initiative of its Institute of Human Rights and its Faculty of Law, launches its own call for the incorporation of Afghan women students and graduates to the University of Valencia.
The Vice-Rector's Office for Internationalization and Cooperation of the University of Valencia, has announced the 2022 Scholarships for Afghan Women, which will provide the beneficiaries with all the means to carry out a training stay at our institution.
