International Conference. València, october 16-17th, 2025
The Group of Research on the Reception of Classical Literature (GIRLC in catalan) —in collaboration with the Research Project “Literary Topoi in Imperial Narrative: From the Greco-Roman Tradition to Christian Literature” (CIGE/2023/22), funded by the Generalitat Valenciana— is organizing an interdisciplinary scientific meeting focused on the analysis of human interactions with the natural environment and their reflection in literature. The main objectives are, on the one hand, to show the research conducted by the group in its own field of study—the reception of Latin and Greek literatures in various later literary traditions—and, on the other, to foster an open research process that brings together the training and efforts of specialists from different fields and disciplines.
In this edition, we aim to gather study proposals centered on the interactions between humans and the natural environment in a broad sense, across all literary genres of the classical traditions and their reception. The primary interest is to explore the interrelations or connections (both positive and negative) established in literature between humans and the surrounding natural world (including rivers, mountains, animals, plants, etc.). Proposals that align with the central theme of the conference will be especially valued, whether they focus on a single work, author, or genre, or adopt a multidisciplinary or comparative approach—for example, by examining the presence of a specific motif across different genres or literary traditions.
