Resum:

Theories beyond General Relativity typically contain at least one additional scalar degree of freedom, which generically mediates an additional force. The presence of this scalar field gives rise to new finite-size coefficients. For example, in analogy with the mass of an object, which quantifies its coupling to the gravitational field, one can define a scalar charge that quantifies its coupling to the scalar field. Since gravitational waveform models generally depend on these coefficients, a robust understanding of their properties is essential. I will discuss several subtleties that arise when extracting the finite-size coefficients of isolated compact objects in scalar-tensor theories.
