CaFeCiCo 04/06/2026: Trait-first into small scale processes

Most of my PhD work revolves around two main themes:
understanding vegetation better and in more general terms through plant traits, and an attention to smaller, neglected spatial scales (from centimetres up to a few metres). They are accompanied throughout by a special attention to methods and their novel applications.
I will discuss the work I joined here in Valencia, on the challenge of measuring functional distances in the presence of intraspecific variation, as well as an ongoing work on the effects of weather on the functional diversity of beech forest understory. Additionally, I will mention my previous works on small-scale trait patterns of individuals in dry grassland, and on the multi-scale relationship of forest structure with functional diversity components.
