The Plant Ecophysiology and Water Management Service at the Centre for Research on Desertification (CIDE) aims to provide researchers, technicians and businesses with a range of plant ecophysiological measurements, as well as determining the water requirements of crops to optimise water use.

Ecophysiological variables help us understand how plants interact with their environment and respond to environmental factors such as drought, heatwaves or light. Their application is useful in crop management to optimise irrigation and other management practices, as well as to design ecosystem restoration strategies and predict the effects of climate change on agricultural crop yields.

It provides services to various CIDE research groups, such as: Sustainable Agriculture and the Study of the Effect of Fire on Soil; Water & Crops; Mutualisms in Plant Communities; Evolutionary Ecology and Disturbances; Evolution of Ecological Interactions; and Climate Variability. In addition, it serves other CSIC centres, non-CSIC centres in joint ventures, other public research bodies and universities, as well as other external clients and private companies.

The creation of this service is an initiative funded, as part of the #TRAGUA project, by the Valencian Agency for Innovation (AVI) (IVACE+i Innovation) and co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Programme for the Valencian Community 2021–2027.
