This programme is addressed to those people interested in research training in the area of Food Sciences. The programme is designed for developing the necessary skills for carrying out researches and for high quality teaching careers.
Moreover, students have to show their proficiency on the languages used during the training period of the Doctoral Programme (Spanish language).
The recommended entry profile is that of the students who have completed official studies which give access to the Doctoral Programme, in some of the specialisations related to:
- Food Quality and Safety
- Nutrition
The Master’s Degree in Food Quality and Safety of the UV is the most recommendable pathway of students for accessing to this doctoral programme, which guarantees the previous knowledge needed. However, this is not the only way to enter to the Master’s, as other university studies or previous professional experience that has provided students advanced knowledge in any of the following subjects related to food sciences, such as, Nutrition, Dietetics, Diet Therapy, Food Science, Food Technology, Biotechnology of Food, Food Toxicology, Management of Food Quality, Food Hygiene, and which provide applicants with the following competencies and skills:
- Generic abilities and skills like analysing, assessing and synthesising new and complex ideas, critically, including the research and creative pathway from innovative designs and the one which includes knowledge from different technological disciplines, as well as self learning skills and their involvement in a work team environment.
- Specific competences related to the acquisition of advanced knowledge and qualification for technological application in the area of design, analysis, quality control and food security with a research approach in the field of food science and for the development of doctoral studies, such as: To know how to evaluate the influence of food components in the quality of the same, to handle the statistical methodology and to know how to analyse problems To know the regulatory procedures of food quality management and to have abilities for adapting the processes related to food to the current legislations of food hygiene and quality management systems, to have skills in the techniques and analysis methods for evaluating different aspects of food security. To know the scientific approaches of nutrition and to handle skilfully the tools necessary for evaluating the eating habits for techniques, strategies and nutritional intervention models in special physiological situations, as well as in the most prevalent diseases related to food with the ability to recognise the nutritional needs of specific communities.
