Time commitment and duration of doctoral studies

 

TIME COMMITMENT
The studies can be full-time or part-time. Part-time dedication must be justified for reasons of work, family obligations... presenting the corresponding documentary proof in the pre-registration, and must have the authorisation of the Academic Committee of the Programme.

DURATION OF DOCTORAL STUDIES

-The duration of the doctoral studies will be a maximum of four years full-time, starting from the admission of the doctoral student to the Programme until the application for the deposit of the doctoral thesis.
However, with the prior authorisation of the academic committee responsible for the programme, part-time doctoral studies may be undertaken. In this case, part-time studies may have a maximum duration of seven years from the date of enrolment in the programme to the date of submission of the doctoral thesis.
-When the doctoral candidate is a person with a degree of disability equal to or higher than 33 per cent, the duration of the doctoral studies will be a maximum of six years full-time and nine years part-time.

-In the pre-enrolment application form, students must indicate the type of full-time or part-time dedication regime they have chosen. In the case of part-time dedication, supporting documentation of the circumstances that justify the application -employment contract, family obligations, etc.- must be attached. The Academic Coordination Committee of the programme will decide on the granting of part-time dedication.

Extension

-Before the end of the deadlines mentioned in the previous sections, if the application for deposit of the thesis has not been submitted, the Academic Committee responsible for the programme, at the request of the doctoral student, may authorise the extension of this period for a further year, under the conditions established in the corresponding doctoral programme. - Situations of temporary incapacity, birth, adoption, foster care, risk during pregnancy, risk during breastfeeding and gender violence or any other situation contemplated in the regulations in force during the aforementioned period of time will interrupt the calculation of the time limit for the duration of the doctoral studies.

Temporary leave

-The doctoral student may apply for periods of temporary leave from the programme for up to a total of two years. This request must be addressed and justified to the academic committee responsible for the programme, which will decide whether or not to grant the doctoral student's request. (Applications)

Change of time commitment:

- The change of dedication from full-time (FT) to part-time (PT) and from PT to FT may be authorised only once, when the applicant's circumstances have changed and this is sufficiently accredited by the doctoral student. (Request for change of time commitment).
