Doctoral Programme in Teledetection

The Academic Committee of the programme will decide about the relevance of
carrying out training complements once it has studied the curriculum of doctoral students. Where appropriate, the committee will decide the subjects from the postgraduate studies academic offer that the applicants should take, considering the specific training required by the doctoral students for the appropriate development of their research task.

Those students who proceed from a Master’s Degree in Teledetection or any European Master’s Degree in Remote
Sensing with a minimum of 60 credits ECTS will not have to take the training complemetns.

For those students who proceed from any other Master’s attending to their training pathway and to the courses
carried out, the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Programme will consider if those students must take training complements.
-These complements will be of 20 ECTS as a maximum and, depending on students’ entry profile,
the following subject matters to be taken are proposed, all them belonging to the Master’s Degree in Teledetection which is taught at
the UV:

-Fundaments (10 ECTS): The different elements which intervene in the images-taking by sensors integrated into different platforms
are analysed, the physic principles occur, experiences of radiometry in laboratory are carried out.
-Images Processing (10ECTS): The characteristics of the systems, sensors and images, metadata, generic formats and teledetection products as well as image processing
such as colour composition, contrast settings, filters and image restoration techniques are explained in this subject matter. The methods of radiometric and atmospheric geometric correction are presented, making a distinction of the correction methods of the last
according to the spectral region, as well as topographic effects correction in the optic domain. The technics for microwaves differentiating between passive radiometers and radar are also explained. Moreover,
some statistical treatments for images, such as spatial continuity with variograms, and the
the kriging and cokring technics are also exposed. The practices are currently taught with the commercial software ENVI, the programming language Matlab and the free software S-GeMS, apart from Toolboxes of the ESA.

-Teledetection Applications (10 ECTS): Teledetection technics employed
in the observation of the biosphere, atmosphere, the oceans and the cryosphere are studied in this subject matter.
