IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (http://www.grss-ieee.org/) is a professional society of experts in remote sensing, earth observation and Geosciences most important in the world.
The company aims to promote the progress of science, technology, applications and training in Geosciences, remote sensing and earth observation from space. Promotes the dissemination and exchange of information among its members and the international scientific community, including the education of young engineers and scientists. The company GRSS IEEE publishes many journals of high impact factor, organizes international conferences with thousands of attendees, and numerous summer schools.
The "IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing: Distinguished Lecturer" has as main objectives to disseminate the progress and developments in the field of remote sensing ( "remote sensing") and to involve them in the international scientific community, in the sense wider. The program supports regional and national chapters around the world by making speakers available that can inspire and encourage new researchers. Each year, the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society chooses three "Distinguished Professors" ( "Distinguished lecturers", DL). One of them was Prof. 2016 Gustavo Camps-Valls, PhD in Physics, Professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering (ETSI) http://www.uv.es/die and leader of the group "Image and Signal Processing" (ISP), http: / /isp.uv.es in the Science Park of the University of Valencia.
The contributions of Prof. Camps-Valls focus on the development of machine learning algorithms for data analysis in remote sensing, earth observation and Geosciences. He is the author of 120 articles in magazines, more than 150 papers, 20 international chapters of books and editor of several international books related to signal processing, data and machine learning methods. It has index h = 48, entered the list of ISI highly cited researchers in 2011, and Thomson Reuters ScienceWatch identified one of his works as a research leader. In 2015, he won the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Consolidators Grant to advance learning statistical data from Earth observation.
Prof. Camps-Valls was a member of the Scientific Adviser of the next satellite of EUMETSAT MTG-IRS, and associate editor of the journal IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, IEEE Selected Topics in Signal Processing and IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Magazine. With the recognition obtained as a "Distinguished Lecturer" of the IEEE GRS Society, Gustau will give lectures on advanced data processing and automated methods ( "machine learning") worldwide.
