The Green Horizon Chair awards the best doctoral and master's theses on water, bioenergy and bioeconomy. Applications are open until 15 October 2026.
The Green Horizon: Water-Bioenergy Nexus Chair, supported by the University of Valencia in the collaboration with FACSA and SITRA, has opened calls for the Best Doctoral Thesis and Master's Final Thesis Awards. The awards aim to recognise academic excellence and encourage research in the fields of water, bioenergy and bioeconomy.
The aim of this call is to showcase the talent of students and researchers who are responsible for developing groundbreaking solutions to face some of the main environmental challenges of present day. Therefore, promoting the dissemination of knowledge to the productive sector and contributing to the advancement of more sustainable and circular models.
The works presented can address different topics related to wastewater treatment and evaluation, anaerobic digestion and biogas and biomethane production, recovery of nutrients, valorisation of organic waste, elimination of arising contaminants, circular economy or development of new bioproducts and sustainable technologies.
The Best Master's Final Thesis Award
The application is open to anyone that has defended their Master's Final Thesis during the academic period indicated in the call guidelines and whose works is related to any of the themes listed by the Chair.
The award consists of an IPad worth 900 € and an accredited diploma. As well as the possibility of spreading the work at events held by the Chair.
The Best Doctoral Thesis
The call will also acknowledge the best doctoral thesis defended in the Chair's areas of interest during the period specified in the guidelines.
The winner will be awarded with a MacBook worth 1,800 € alongside an accredited diploma. Furthermore, the possibility of sharing the main results of the research at a technical conference organised by the Green Horizon Chair.
Submission Deadline
Applications can be submitted until 15 October 2026, following the instructions and requirements detailed in the guidelines of each call.
Through this initiative, the Green Horizon Chair reaffirms its commitment to training, research and dissemination of knowledge. Therefore, supporting new generations of professionals and researchers who will contribute to the development of groundbreaking solutions to the water-bioenergy nexus.
