“Characterisation and Optimisation of Nonlinear Parameters in Amplifiers”

  • April 11th, 2016

Modern mobile communications like LTE, 802.11ac and 5G, satellite communications, broadcasting, aerospace applications and defence, establish new requirements in linearity, bandwidth and power consumption in components, mobile handsets or base stations.

Generally, one of the components with a highest energy consumption and that most nonlinearities generates is the power amplifier. This is the reason whyevery design wants to increase spectral efficiency, the power-added efficiency and to reduce the distortion and nonlinearities.

The characterisation through continuous wave signals (CW) allows to obtain S parameters, spurious, compression and distortion parameters of the amplifier, quickly and efficiently in a single measure. Such characterisation can prove to be incomplete due to effects of memory and impedance adaptation to harmonic or intermodulation frequencies, among others. This is why the use of digitally modulated complex signals, turns out to be really useful to validate the nonlinear response of the current high-performance active devices.

On the other hand, when  active devices are characterised, the correct balance of speed, performances and integrity of the measures is critical to achieve a competitive advantage of the final product.

This seminar will provide you with new measuring techniques and solutions to successfully face the present measuring challenges and those challenges that may appear in their new designs.
