On 28 April, the Worker’s Memorial Day is commemorated. This celebration was promoted by the International Labour Organization two decades ago in order to promote a culture that is focused in decreasing accidents at work and occupational diseases.
The vice-principal of Sustainability, Cooperation and Healthy Life, Pilar Serra Añó and the director of the Health and Safety and the Environment Service, Antonio Alberola Aguilar have stressed to the workers of the University of Valencia the importance of “preventing the risks in the work environment as well as promoting their well-being in the university community.
In order to achieve a safe and healthy work environment, the active participation of the working staff is required. Therefore, "it is necessary to decentralise prevention by integrating, on the one hand, prevention into the general management system of the UV - both in all activities and at all hierarchical levels - and, on the other hand, relying on the contributions and suggestions of the university community in training, information, consultation and participation activities", explain Pilar Serra and Antonio Alberola in the announcement.
The University of Valencia wants to reiterate its compromise to health and safety in the work space, and this requires the promotion of a preventive culture. “We ask you to continue integrating prevention and participating from it, as another aspect of the everyday life in every task or decision you make and we make to effectively reach the highest levels of security, health and well-being at the work place”, coclude the vice-principal of Sustainability, Cooperation and Healthy Life and the director of the Health and Safety and the Environment of the UV.
