23 April will be the deadline for submitting a project to the “Mostra art públic / universitat pública”, a competition that aims to put the Universitat de València at the service of art and turn it into a place of artistic intervention open to society. The “Mostra” will take place during the months of October and November and will host up to twelve projects that will receive an endowment of €2,000 each for their execution.

The application is open to visual artists who, individually or in teams, and with no age limit, are interested in making an ephemeral, site-specific intervention for the Burjassot or Blasco Ibáñez campuses. The proposals must reflect on the approach of contemporary art to science and the social and human sciences and reflect the possibilities of contemporary art to address interdisciplinary content and generate synergies with the areas of study of the Universitat.

Among the criteria for evaluating the projects, in addition to the usual ones referring to artistic quality or the adaptation of the artistic interventions to the architectural space of the campuses, this year, within the framework of the celebration of the 525th anniversary of the Universitat de València, it will also be taken into account that the projects incorporate some of the values of the Universitat: commitment to identity, excellence, innovation, social and economic progress, transparency, justice, equality, solidarity and cooperation, and sustainability.

The jury, which will select up to twelve projects, will be made up of Ester Alba, vice-principal of Culture and Society of the UV; Marcos Durà, delegate of the principal for UV students; Oskia Ugarte, head of the Huarte Contemporary Art Centre and expert in cultural management; Paula Santiago, professor of the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts and director of the Art and Environment Research Centre, both from the UPV and curator and visual artist; Paula Santiago, lecturer in the Department of Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts and head of the Art and Environment Research Centre, both at the UPV, and curator and visual artist; and technical staff from the Information and Promotion Service for Students and the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society of the Universitat de València.

Each selected project will receive an endowment of €2,000 for its execution and will be exhibited at the 27th “Mostra art públic / universitat pública”, which will take place at the Burjassot and Blasco Ibáñez campuses during the months of October and November. As in the last editions, the Universitat de València will also publish a catalogue.

“La Mostra art públic/ Universitat pública” is an initiative promoted by the Delegació d'Estudiants and organised by the Information and Promotion Service for Students (Sedi) with the collaboration of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society.
