Who Can Access Tirant?
In principle, any researcher from the Valencian Community may request computing time from the 45% share allocated to Tirant. In addition, they may apply for access to the 55% of resources assigned to the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES), following the application procedures available on the RES website at BSC.
Access Protocol
-
Each request for activities to be carried out on Tirant must be submitted by a researcher (Principal Investigator responsible for the activity) who is a member of an active research project. This project must be funded by an international, national, or regional institution through a public competitive funding process that guarantees transparency, objectivity, and fair competition.
-
The application form must include the following information:
-
A description of the activity to be carried out on Tirant. In particular, the relationship to the overall scientific project under which the proposed activity is framed must be specified, including the project's reference number.
-
A justification explaining why this activity requires access to Tirant.
-
A brief CV of the Principal Investigator responsible for the activity or, where applicable, the Principal Investigator of the scientific project. References to the most relevant publications from the last five years should be included.
-
A technical description of the software and resources required on Tirant.
-
Evaluation Process
Once the application for computing time has been completed and submitted, it will be evaluated by a committee of five scientists who will determine whether the project can be executed on Tirant, a resource within the Spanish Supercomputing Network.
The following criteria will be used:
-
Overall quality of the scientific project supporting the activity (20%).
-
Importance of the proposed activity and the relevance of the calculations performed on Tirant to achieving the project's objectives (30%).
-
Scientific credentials of the applicant research group (10%).
-
Previous experience in high-performance computing (10%).
-
Demonstrated need for a supercomputer to carry out the proposed calculations (20%).
-
Technical suitability of the proposed activity to the Tirant architecture (10%).
User Obligations
-
Submit to the Access Committee an electronic copy of any publications (articles, conference proceedings, etc.) based on results obtained through the use of Tirant resources.
-
Explicitly acknowledge the use of Tirant in such publications (for example, in the acknowledgements section).
-
Comply with the Tirant usage policies and the security and confidentiality regulations established by RES.
-
Guarantee that results obtained using Tirant will not be used for commercial purposes and will only be used under the terms of Public Research.
-
Provide the Access Committee with any additional information or documentation (videos, multimedia presentations, etc.) that may be used for outreach and dissemination activities related to work carried out on Tirant.
Access Requests
Access to the service is managed through an Access Committee composed of scientists responsible for evaluating each request and planning the allocation of available resources.
Resources are assigned for a period of six months, after which a new application or a continuation project proposal must be submitted. Only one continuation request is allowed for a given initial application. In such cases, the initial proposal must include a work plan covering each allocation period, clearly specifying which tasks will be carried out during each one.
This model is analogous to the one currently used at BSC, which has proven highly effective.
The opening and closing dates for submission periods will be published on both the Tirant website and through communications to UV scientific computing users.
The two allocation periods are:
|
1Q |
del 01/01 al 30/06 |
|
2Q |
del 01/07 al 31/12 |
Computing Time Application Forms
To request computing time, applicants must complete the form corresponding to their needs. Two forms are available:
-
New Project Application.
-
Continuation Application for an existing project requiring additional computing time.
Instructions for Completing the Forms
The forms are provided as PDF files and must be completed electronically. We recommend using Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Once completed, the form should be sent by email to tirant@uv.es as an attachment, or submitted using the "Submit Form" option available in Acrobat Reader.
Please note that there are two versions of the form: one for new projects and another for the renewal of an already approved project.
Access to RES Resources
Finally, please note that you may also request access to the computing time allocated to the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES) through the corresponding web application form.
In this case, the RES Access Committee will evaluate your proposal and decide on which RES supercomputing node your work will be executed, provided that the proposal is approved.
