On April 18 and 19, 2024, the ninth edition of the “Life Stories in Education Conference” will take place at the MuVIM Valencian Museum of Enlightenment and Modernity (C/ De Quevedo, 10. 46001. Valencia), organized by the CREARI research group of the IUCIE.

The role that people play in life stories will be explored in depth and that is why the title of the conference is “Life Stories in Education. “People and references in the construction of stories.” This theme is raised as the axis of the meeting, because life stories are often linked to more than one person and because artistic, musical, scientific, technological, and cinematographic references can enable forms of narration. This proposal will allow us to advance in contributions from previous sessions such as the politics of representation, the ways of narrating, the relationship with the other who gives us their story, the reconstruction of what we have lived, the relationship between images and stories, or the role of visual strategies.

In accordance with the methodological and ethical approach followed in previous editions, the work dynamic will be based on open and frank dialogue about the works presented, favoring public debate and shared reflection. The works presented will be articulated around four axes:

• The people who cross paths in life stories. What type of information do the families, friends, students of the people about whom a life story is told? How can other people be involved in the construction of stories? How do you collaborate on crossings with other people?

• Materialities as devices for incorporating influences into life stories. How are artistic, architectural, musical, cinematographic, technological, scientific references introduced into life stories? What role do icons, heroes, heroines, gods, deities, influencers, or fantasy beings have in life stories? To what extent are people who are not physically known important in life stories? What characteristics of the referents are transferred to the lives recounted?

• Associations, groups and groups as triggers for meetings and shared stories. Putting biographies in context as a relationship with other people How is a life story contextualized from plurality? How does the collective influence individual life stories? What is the life story shared by a group or educational community? What strategies do we find to cover life stories of associations, groups, classes or other groups? What ways do we find to share life stories in encounters with other people?

• The absent people who are present in life stories. Reflecting on the process of recovering forgotten narratives Reinterpreting silences or gaps in information. Becoming aware of the losses, deaths, exiles, censures. What files, texts, recordings, audios have been left within our reach by people with whom we cannot have physical contact?

The deadline for sending communications proposals ends on February 1.
