Training objectives

Since the introduction of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), competence assessment is a priority, which requires a new teaching organization in which the new teaching-learning methodologies occupy a relevant place. The new learning process strives in keeping the student’s active participation in their classrooms and obtaining information by the lecturer in real time in the students' understanding of the subject taught. Educational debate is an active learning strategy designed to engage students in the practice of important cognitive skills, such as critical thinking and deliberation, as well as the development of oral communication skills.

The general objective of this course/workshop is to acquire knowledge to implement educational debates in the teaching process in Health Sciences for university students.

This objective will be achieved through these specific objectives:

1.-To know the elements and the previous process to create an educational debate between our students (establishing rules for the debate-groups, timing…, selecting material, etc.)

2.-To know the different options to carry out the academic debate

3.-To design a proper questionnaire to evaluate the results of the debate.

4.-To know how to use app’s, such as Socrative or Mentimenter, to administrate the questionnaire and to have answers in real-time

5.- To know how to use Flipgrid, a video discussion platform that allows students to debate topics related to Health Sciences.

On the second session of the course, an educational debate between participants will be held. This debate will allow the participants to know the process from withing, playing the role of students. Afterwards we discuss and comment limitations, possible modifications, suggestions, etc.
