This course is addressed to junior or more experienced university lecturers from non-philological degrees who wish to refresh their communication skills in writing and presenting their research in English.

Training objectives

1. To use academic English to write scientific articles: planning, objectives, structure, editing.

2. To use academic English to deliver scientific presentations: preparation and planning, objectives, structure and delivery. The Q & A section.

3. To recognize some features of communication in general and academic communication in particular: communicative purpose, audience, register and style.

4. To be aware of the role of non-verbal communication.

5. To deliver a mini-presentation in English.

6. To evaluate presentations (rubrics).

Contents

1. Analysis of scientific articles: reading techniques and parallel writing.

2. Planning and preparing presentations.

3. Delivering presentations.

4. Self-evaluation and peer-evaluation of presentations.

1. To be able to communicate effectively in English in academic contexts: written mode, papers.
