Well, I have the script, the actors and all the necessary equipment to start shooting my short film but, how I finance it? Obviously, financing the production of an audiovisual content is not affordable to the majority of particulars, for this reason, in this post we describe in detail some of the aids for the financing offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

At the state level, the main via to amortise the ausiovisual production is the Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute (ICAA), an organism on the Secretary of State for Culture in charge of formulating support policies to the film industry and the audiovisual production. Among its multiple functions stand out the recovering, restoration, conservation and research of the film heritage; and the promotion and production of Spanish audiovisual and film activities in its three main axes: production, distribution and exhibition. Today we will deal with this second function.

Every year, the ICCA signs an agreement with the Official Credit Institute (ICO) for the stablishment of a financing line for the film production. This is a loan and the aid aims to reduce your interests. Some of the conditions to obtain those aids are:

• To register the company in the Administrative Register of Audiovisual Companies
• To start the shooting within the following six months after the aid grant
• To present the required documentation: project report, budget, financing plan, working plan, etc.

Aid for the amortisation of features

• Balanced composition between men and women within the project responsibilities
• The feature film must not be beforehand commercialised

Aid for the participation of Spanish film in festivals

• To detail the total costs of the participation of the film in the festival
• To specify whether it is an international co-production or it involves several Spanish producers. In both cases, to point out which is the participation level of each one
• To present a promotion plan or the memory of a carried out campaign

Aid for the organisation of festivals and film contests in Spain

• To present a report about the total budged of the festival or contest
• Activity report of the entity or CV of the physical person promotor of the festival or contest within the audiovisual area

Aid for the production of short films with project

• The duration of the audiovisual production has to be less than 60 minutes
• It will be considered as “independent producer” as long as it doesn’t depend on an audiovisual communication/dissemination service prover nor on the owner of a private TV channel
• All the documentation has to be presented online, except the application. The paper format is forbidden for the rest of the procedures
• Shoot beginning: 2 months from the granting of the aid and 4 months if it is an animated film
