Dr. Pilar Tejero is a Full Professor of the Department of Basic Psychology. Universitat de València.

In her lecture she presented the interventions that are being carried out to evaluate relevant aspects within the addiction, both to substances of abuse and in pathological gambling. She raised the importance of evaluating the implicit and explicit processing that the addict performs, from the perspective of the dual processing model of addiction. She pointed out that the importance and difficulty of the evaluation of the implicit activity, which is given precisely because it is a content not accessible through introspection, there is no voluntary control over it, but this processing can be triggered by certain internal and external stimuli that affect the subject.

The ingenuity has consisted in developing indirect methods for the evaluation of the implicit content and making inferences that inform aspects such as the attention bias, the inhibitory control or the positive evaluation that the addict makes of the addictive behaviour. Using this methodology, the presence of differences between drug users and people with behavioural alterations in the game has been verified in the implicit processing, which makes possible the development of retraining techniques that allow an improvement in the treatment of disorders due to the use of drugs, substances and pathological gambling.
