Women, Body, and Textuality: Authorship from a Gender Perspective

  • October 2nd, 2025
Exhibition

The seminar Women, Body, and Textuality: Authorship from a Gender Perspective offers a space to reflect on the role of women in literary creation. Understanding authorship from a gender perspective allows us to raise some key questions: What does it mean to be a woman author? What is her position within the literary canon? And what is the relationship between the body of the text and the body of the author?

In order to gain deeper insight into this topic, the seminar is divided into two sessions. The first session will be led by Meri Torras, Associate Professor of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Professor Torras is a leading scholar in Gender Studies in Spain. Her research explores gender and literature, cultural studies, literary criticism, and queer theory, with a particular focus on the intersection of literature and audiovisual arts. The session will take place on October 16 at 5:00 p.m., Sala de Juntas, Faculty of Social Sciences, Campus de Tarongers.

The second session will be led by Beatriz Ferrús, Full Professor of Latin American Literature at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Her work examines the connections between women, body, and writing, with special attention to conventual writing in the viceregal period and the emergence of professional women writers in the nineteenth century. The session will be held on October 20 at 4:00 p.m., Salón de Grados, Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication.
The seminar provides an excellent opportunity to foster dialogue between Literary Studies and Gender Studies. It is open to the entire academic community, particularly to those interested in exploring the intersections of body, text, and authorship from a multidisciplinary perspective.
