Introduction

Public Health can be identified with the jointly organised efforts of society with a fundamental mission: to prevent health problems and encourage community health.

Among the basic dimensions of Public Health, are worth to be highlighted: Its philosophical conceiving based on equity; the inevitable political implications that entails (from infectious diseases to environmental risks including chronic conditions, organisation of healthcare, occupational risks, and care services towards elderly people, immigrants...); its wide action range; the multidisciplinary character in its own nature (highlighting convergence in the work of people coming from different starting professional profiles); and the impact and multi´sectorial interrelationship (environment, work, education, housing, food...) that lies beneath phenomena that affects health.

The Master's Degree in Public Health and Healthcare Management is focused on training of professionals in the field of public health (epidemiology, health monitoring, promotion of health, disease prevention, preventive medicine, environment and health, occupational health, food security) and the field of healthcare management (health planning, healthcare services management, health economy and macroeconomy, health microeconomy).
