He was born in Valencia in 1932.
Full university professor of History at the University of Valencia (1964-1980)
He was a Constitutional Court Judge in 1980, where he was named president in February 1986; he contributed to shape up the protection of rights and freedom that were enunciated in the Constitution.
In 1989 he was re-elected, and after being elected academician of the Royal Academy of History (1991), he returned to Chair in the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Among his historical essays stands out La era isabelina, (Elisabethan Age) El sexenio revolucionari (The Revolucionary Six Year Period), National Prize of History in 1981 and his last book A orillas del Estado(On the Edge of the State).
