Faculty of Social Sciences pays tribute to the professor of the Department of Social Work and Social Services, Magdalena López Precioso, who passed away on 28 September.
The Assembly hall of the Faculty of Social Sciences hosted a commemoration act in which many members of the university community paid tribute to Magdalena López Precioso. In addition, a hall of the same faculty was attributed the name of the professor.
The act was carried out in the presence of the Principal of the Universitat de València, María Vicenta Mestre; the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Albert Moncusí; the Vice-Principal for Culture and Sport, Antonio Ariño; the Vice-Principal for Equality, Diversity and Sustainability, Elena Martínez; the director of the Equality Unit, Amparo Mañés; as well as the staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences and other university centres.
Magdalena López Precioso, known as Madalen, was a professor and a director of the Department of Social Work and Social Services, a secretary of the Faculty of Social Sciences, a member of the Faculty Board as well as the UV Senate and the Governing Council. López Precioso stood out for her commitment to the university and to the issues of equality, society, and research. Committed to the university management, she strived to develop studies and profession in the field of social work.
The participants of the event mentioned the commitment of Magdalena López Precioso to the issue of gender equality as she formed a part of the commission which elaborated the first UV Equality Plan. She also played a role in promoting university volunteering and created courses of Information and Promotion Service for Students (SeDi).
As far as her research is concerned, López Precioso closely studied the topic of Sexual Work from the perspective of equality and recognition of rights, which was articulated in her publications, awards, congresses and meetings.
The act involved the principal María Vicenta Mestre, the vice-principal Antonio Ariño, the director of the Equality Unit, Amparo Mañés, the vice-dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Trinidad Gregori, Immaculada Verdeguer, Elena Mut, Gabriela Moriana, Carles López, Trinidad Quixal, Ruth Mestre, Sara Verdú, Paco Torres, Joan Sifré, Teresa Yeves y Amparo Martínez, among others.
In her statement, the principal María Vicenta Mestre affirmed that “Madalen was defined by her ability to put her research activity into practice and stay truly committed to the process of society transformation in her study field: Social Work.” “She was a symbol of consciousness, of commitment, of fight both in her personal life and on the streets in social, feminist, and labour fields. May the memory of her live on forever,” concluded Mestre.
