The Valencian Association of Young Pharmacy Students (AVEF) and the Faculty of Pharmacy organize the IX Congress of Pharmacy Students, which opened on Wednesday 13 March in the Darwin Hall of the Campus of Burjassot.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the rector of the Universitat de València, Mª Vicenta Mestre; by the general director of Pharmacy and Health Products of the Generalitat Valenciana (Valencian Government), José Manuel Ventura; by the president of the Official College of Pharmacists of Valencia, Jaime Giner; by the dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Juan Carlos Moltó; by the presidents of the IX Congress of Pharmacy Students, Carlos del Pozo and Mª Teresa Varea; and by the director of the IX Congress of Pharmacy Students, Meryem El Ouarda.

The rector Mª Vicenta Mestre congratulated the organizers of the congress, 'and especially in the case of a student congress, an example of the proactivity, enthusiasm and dynamism of the community of students’. Mestre also recalled the importance of the pharmaceutical sector as a generator of direct and indirect employment, highlighting that according to UVjob data, 86% of students in the degree in Pharmacy are working on tasks related to their studies in the two years following completion of their degree.

For his part, Dean Juan Carlos Moltó encouraged the students to continue the line of work and research that starts this congress, recalling the many fields of action involved in being a pharmacist.

The president of the Official College of Pharmacists of Valencia, Jaime Giner, stressed the importance of collaboration between the Universitat and the Official College and addressing the attendees, reminded them that ‘the common goal we have is to give you the tools you need to achieve your goals’.

The congress closed on Wednesday at 6 p.m. with a closing ceremony which was attended by the vice-dean of Studies of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Marisa Ferrándiz; the president of the Official College of Pharmacists of Castellón, Sergio Marco; the presidents of the IX Congress of Pharmacy Students, Carlos del Pozo and Mª Teresa Varea; the director of the IX Congress of Pharmacy Students, Meryem El Ouarda; and the president of the AVEF, Eric Borràs.

The present edition of the IX Congress of Pharmacy Students was about 'forming links, breaking limits'. This area has developed into three keynote speeches and three round tables with renowned experts and authorities. The congress has a regular attendance of 300 students, many of them from European countries, and is an activity recognized by the Governing Council of the University of Valencia as of extra academic interest and, therefore, recognized with credits. In addition, the AVEF in collaboration with the Scientific Commission and the Faculty of Pharmacy publishes the book of abstracts.
