The University of Valencia and the Health Research Institue (IIS) of the Hospital La Fe will promote the rehabilitation of patients of different diseases through sport. The Principal, Esteban Morcillo, and the General Director of the IIS, José Vicente Castell, have signed this Thursday the agreement which will launch this initiative. The experience will begin with liver patients and will be extended to other diseases.
The objective of this agreement is to increase the quality of life of people with liver transplants (and rheumatologic patients as other diseases), through a sport properly adapted to every need. It is about researching and to apply protocols easy to perform (some of them in water) and correctly dosed.
The Principal, Esteban Morcillo has stressed the close collaboration between the University and the Hospital La Fe that has described as a “reference center” and “flagship” of health researching. The Principal claimed physical treatments as very important, and that traditionally have been forgot. Not everything can be placed on chemical and surgical treatments, he concluded.
José Vicente Castell, for his part, has claimed the role of hospitals as generators of knowledge.
The agreement has been promoted by the University of Valencia by Professor Juan Carlos Colado, of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport.
