The 7th Lake Como School Virtual Summer School 2026 was held on 6th and 7th May at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Food Sciences of the University of Valencia. The event was organized by Professor Francesca Caloni of the University of Milan, and featured Dr María José Ruiz, of UV and member of the RiskTox group, as a guest organizer.
The event was held under the theme "Alternative methods, new approach methodologies (NAM) and artificial intelligence (AI): shaping the future of predictive science". The programme concentrated on addressing issues related to safety and sustainability from the perspective of design and predictive science, emphasizing the role of alternative methods, NAMs and AI as strategic tools for promoting cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary approaches in scientific research. These methodologies also enable responses to emerging challenges with significant ethical and social implications.
The school welcomed students from a range of European countries, along with specialists from a variety of international institutions, including the University of Milan, the Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (Baltimore, USA), Invitrolize (Romania), UMF Cluj-Napoca (Romania), the Institute of Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology (Bratislava, Slovakia), the Ignaz Semmelweis Institute (Vienna) and University College London.
