The PhD student of the Biomedicine and Pharmacy programme of the University of Valencia will be part of the scientific dissemination project, which aims to increase the interest of young people for science, technology and innovation.

Andrea Zambrano Cobos will participate in the contest “Somos científicos, ¡sácanos de aquí!” (‘We are scientists, get us out of here!’), an activity that puts professionals from the world of science in contact with students from different schools and institutes in the Spanish territory. “I encouraged myself to be part of the project because I like scientific dissemination and I found it interesting to talk about it in a simple way through the Internet”, explains the engineer in Biotechnology.

In the proposal, the student body will meet twenty scientists and specialists in different thematic areas and will interact on the Internet. The project is proposed as a contest, where students are the jury. It will challenge the participants in quick chats of questions, and after two weeks of activity they will choose their favourite one to win the economic prize, which will be used for scientific dissemination.

Andrea Zambrano is part of the Escandio Zone of the project, in which six people related to the scientific field will answer what the students, between 10 and 18 years old, propose. The PhD student has been selected after discovering substances that may be present in fats and that affect heart-related diseases. “Being able to awaken vocations in science careers in those ages is one of the reasons why I decided to join the initiative”, says Zambrano.

The contest, which will be held from April 1 to 12, is organised by Kialo Innovative Communication and Dissemination, and has the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the Higher Council of Scientific Investigations, through the Ciudad Ciencia programme.
