The seminar “The socio-historical formation of consumer society in Spain” will analyze the constitution of consumer society in Spain from its origins and early development to the COVID-19 crisis. The seminar will first introduce the theoretical and methodological models that have accompanied research into consumer society. It will then present the history of consumption in contemporary Spain and conclude with an analysis of research on consumption in Spanish society from a gender perspective. The seminar is promoted by El Rincón de la Imaginación Sociológica in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences, the López Piñero Interuniversity Institute, and the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at the University of Valencia
