In 2017 the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalan Traffic Service) detected the need to have an Integrated ITS Plan that included the period 2017-2019 and elaborated a document that would mark the strategic lines to face this evolution.

On the other hand, in recent years there has been an important increase in the volume of road journeys, possibly due to economic growth and the new mobility needs of citizens. This fact is causing an increase in congestion in road infrastructures and energy consumption, as well as numerous environmental problems.

In addition to the implementation of traditional measures, it is necessary to rely on new technologies to carry out more efficient and sustainable traffic management and to make the most of the road network available.

ITS are advanced systems that allow providing innovative traffic management and information services.

With all this, the SCT wants to give continuity to this planning tool and INTRAS will provide the technical support to develop the new Integrated Plan ITS 2020-2022.
