Description
The aim of the research project was to provide an objective view on the development of road accidents that have been caused by driver distraction and offer a critical view of the available information regarding the accident rate data attributed to this cause.
Based on data collected in the period 1997-2002, in the accident reports from the DGT (Directorate-General of Traffic), which has been considered the distraction as a cause or factor, it has been conducted a series of analyses focused on the following aspects:
- Study of the quality of data in terms of consideration as a determining factor of distraction or influential in the accident rate,
- Annual, seasonal, regular and hourly, evolutionary pattern,
- Indicators relating to risk exposure,
- Differential characteristics of accidents depending on various environmental and spatial aspects of location, types of road and vehicle conditions, types of accidents and consequences
- Determination of typical profiles of the accidents by distractions.
