During the second semester of the academic year, this call for economic grants for the students to produce sociocultural activities has given over 28000 euros between the presented project, which adds to the 28000 awarded during the first semester. Out of the 24 projects that have received grants, thirteen were presented by individual students while the rest in the name of associations and student groups of the Universitat de València.
Among the multiple initiatives promoted by Fora de classe stand out the creation of multiple podcasts, such as S’apanouir avec Laura, about language learning and cultural diversity, by Laura García; DPodcast: Estudiantes de Derecho y Criminología, about current and university issues, by Joaquín García; De-generadas, a video podcast about diversity by Emma Cadenas; and Els diàlegs amb té, un consultori contra l’oblit del poble sahrauí, by Mar Montañés.
Conferences and talks were two of the most common activities that were presented for the call. For instance, the Student Group for the Faculty of Ethical Economics has organised, one more year, the 8th Week of Ethics titled Solidaritat: el camí que ens connecta; Paula Gorrias promoted the conference Más allá del intercambio about inequality and gender in global academic cooperation, with talks, a panel discussion and a fanzine workshop; Pablo Carbó proposed Rompiendo Cadenas, about scientific advances in the field of drug addictions and Ana Martínez pushed forward a conference about heritage conservation focused on the Montesa Castle.
Additionally, there are also proposals for music and performing arts events. Thus, the Fora de classe grants provided financial support to the presentation of the Calenda Choir, a choral experience fully composed by students, alumni and teachers of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication; to the Ombligo musical composition, promoted by student Luna Valls, and to the cycle of performances of the Improvisional theatre group, with works written, interpreted and directed by students of the university.
Other projects that have received funding from Fora de classe and that contribute to enrich the sociocultural programme of the Universitat de València are: Con esto y un bizcocho, a reading club that proposes a cultural and gastronomic trip through a combination of debates and traditional foods from different parts of the world; Dialektic, a game of dialogue and mediation; the Intercultural Conference of Mental and Physical Health, the conference of Start-Ups Legal Regime, to address the theoretical and practical reality of emerging law-technological companies; the Spring Concert of the Banda de Medicina y Odontología; Habl-ARTE con libertad, about the limits of artistic freedom; Bringing University closer to the Students; workshops of the Valencian Medical Students Association (AVEM) and publications such as the Oblivious Journal and the Law Journal of the Elsa Collective.
The Fora de classe call to produce sociocultural activities is an initiative from the Student Council Branch, managed by the Information and Promotion Service for Students (Sedi), that bets for the promotion of student participation in the sociocultural programme of the Universitat de València. In order to do so, we invite the students to provide proposals of their interest and get directly involved in all the stages of the organisation of the activity with the economic aid of this call. Additionally, both in the presentation of applications stage and in the development of the activity, they have at their disposal the counselling of the technical staff of the Sedi.
