UV’s Faculty members debate about transparency and open government in Ontinyent and Aldaia

Javier Cuenca, Lorenzo Cotino and Joaquín Martín (Constitutional Law, Political Sciences and Administration) have analysed the keys to a democratic governance and they have also taken part in a debate together with the assistants in Vall d’Albaida and l’Horta Oest, respectively. These round tables are part of the UV’s programme ‘Challenges for a GO! Culture’ and the Valencian Council.

Social Centre Sant Rafael in Ontinyent has hosted on Tuesday 21 June the cycle ‘Challenges for a GO! Culture: Local transparency’, organised by the Universitat de València and the Valencian Council.

The Ontinyent councillor of Transparency, Joan Sanchis, and the coordinator of the programme and responsible for initiaves of the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, Virginia Pardo (Department of Administrative and Procedural Law) opened the symposium. After the presentation, professor Pardo has moderated a round table in which teachers Javier Cuenca and Lorenzo Cotino, from the Department of Administrative and Procedural Law, Political Sciencies and Administration.

Besides, on Thursday 23, the training programmed has stopped in Aldaia, where the counsillor Sergio Gómez has opened the meeting which took place in the twon council plenary room. Virginia Pardo has moderated the table in which professors Martín Cubas and Lorenzo Cotino took took place.

Through the reflections of these three professors of Procedural Law, Political Sciences, and the UV’s administration, assistants were able to get to know real cases about the methods of providing transparency, the possibilities of citizenship participation in the public affairs management or the elaboration of provisions of regulations in order to create a model of open government.

The programme ‘Challenges for a GO! Culture: Local transparency’ contemplates the celebration of trainning sessions in all the Valencian regions, in which university professors who are expert in this matter, will give lectures on transparency, participation and accountability in the local management. These meetings attempt to inform and train politics representants, local management technicians and citizenship about politics of open government.  

The conferences composing this cycle are taking place in 15 Valencian towns. The next ones are Sagunt (28 June), Utiel (30 June), Buñol (7 July), l’Alcúdia (12 July), Bétera (13 July), Xàtiva (14 July), Anna (19 July), Foios (20 July), Gandia (21 July) and Ayora (22 September).
