Obesity is a chronic disease of multifactorial origin characterized for the excessive accumulation of fat or general hypertrophy of the Adipose tissue on the body; that is, when the natural reserves of humans and other mammals, stored in form of body fat increases to a point where it is associated with several health complications or illnesses and an increase in mortality.

The WHO (World Health Organization) defines obesity when the BMI or body mass Index (the calculation based on a person's weight and height) is equal or superior to 30 kg/m².1 It is also considered a sign of obesity an increased abdominal perimeter equal or superior to 102cm in men and equal or superior to 88cm in women.
