European publicly listed companies must use these standards for the establishment of their consolidated accounts.

The IASB operates under the supervision of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards). Begoña Giner Inchausti has been appointed member on the last renewal of the Council. The Council acts a consulting body for IASB and is made up of many representatives of groups of users, financial analyst, scholars, auditors, regulator, accounting professional bodies and investors groups affected and interested in the work of IASB. Among the 50 members approximately constituting the Advisory Council, only two are lecturers.

Begoña Giner is the president of the European Accounting Association. She has experience in international matters –she has participated in European projects like HARMONIA and INTACCT, and she has also acted as regulator as member of the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG), advisory body for the European Commission on accounting matters.

The IASB must consult its main projects with the Council that Giner has just joined as member. The meetings of the IFRS Advisory Council are open to the public so that an open discussion place is available for organizations and individuals who have some interest in the international financial information. This way, IASB is advised on its work’s priorities and informed on the implications the standards proposed may have as well.
