The Universitat de València and the Research & Education Advanced Network New Zealand Ltd are the winners of the ‘IPv6 Speed Challenge’, promoted by RedIRIS for the affiliated institutions. This challenge is inspired in the test launched by Internet2 (Land Speed Record) to obtain the maximum transfer rate of data between two points, in as much distance as possible.

The initiative has the objective of promoting and gaining experience in the use of IPv6 in the production networks of the affiliated institutions, both in the activation and configuration of the native IPv6, such as the improvement of the networks and the end systems. The challenge has generated a great deal of expectation, both for its technological component and for the prizes for the winners.

The first marks, both in the modality of one flux and multiple fluxes, were sent by Jose Miguel Femenía and his team of the Universitat de València, together with his workmates of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who have been awarded the prize of the first valid published mark.

The awards ceremony will be carried out during the Technical Conferences of the RedIRIS 2016, which will be celebrated between 16 and 18 November in Valencia.
