For students, professionals and the general public.
From February 2024, digital service users will receive enhanced protections against tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Facebook. These safeguards aim to preserve our rights to freedom of expression, information, privacy, and secure online transactions.
Digital transformation is impacting every aspect of citizens' lives, both publicly and privately. Using digital services grants users a unique legal status as recipients of digital tools and contents. This status can affect our fundamental righs, public freedoms and legal position as users of new information and communication technologies and as online consumers. As both citizens and users of these services, it is essential that we are aware of the interests involved as well as our rights under the legal system, especiallly when new legislation grants us new rights in relation to digital service providers, which at the same time, impose new legal obligations on the providers.
The recently approved European Regulation on Digital Services consolidates the protection of users' rights in new information and communication technologies. This includes not only our fundamental rights and public freedoms, but also our role as digital consumers. This legislation, along with e-commerce and consumer protection laws, grants us a unique legal status as recipients of digital services.
