The video of the debate and conclusions on “the impact of artificial intelligence on the working world” organised by the Chair for Collaborative Economy and Digital Transformation is now available.

We now present the video of the debate on “the impact of artificial intelligence on the working world”, which is now available on the La Nau Cultural Centre YouTube Chanel.

The debate took place on 13 November 2023 and was attended by Manuel G. Bedia, Commissioner for the New Language Economy at the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transformation, Gabriel Lopez Serrano, Government Affairs Director at Microsoft, and Adrián Todolí Signes, Associate Professor of Labour Law at the Universitat de València and author of Algoritmos productivos y extractivos. The debate was moderated by journalist Estafanía Pastor León, Editor in Chief of the Valencia Plaza.

Recently, both the OECD and the IMF have published reports predicting that artificial intelligence (AI) will have a significant impact on employment, with an estimated 25% of jobs disappearing. In the short term, employment is expected to fall sharply, especially in medium-skilled occupations such as supervisors and middle managers, according to the ILO. Another relevant aspect discussed was the growing role of AI in workplace decision-making, with algorithms now selecting candidates, organising timetables and monitoring performance. These changes pose important challenges for society and the working world in terms of algorithmic discrimination and occupational risk prevention.

The event was organised by the Escola Europea de Pensament Lluís Vives and the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society of the Universitat de València.
