Since 2021 the Chair for Collaborative Economy and Digital Transformation has been conducting a series of yearly studies focused on understanding and dynamically analysing the current situation of work on digital platforms in the Valencian Community. These studies provide insight on the profile of people working on digital platforms, their working conditions, their preferences and their expectations for the future with the aim of providing an in-depth and systematic understanding of a phenomenon that has generated intense public debate and about which little information is available.
The recent approval of Law 12/2021 and the proposal of the European Directive “on improving working conditions in platform work” stresses the growing social and political importance of platform work. However, as the European Commission highlights, sufficient and systematic information on this topic is limited, which is indeed a cause for concern when considering that effective public policies can only be developed with a thorough understanding of the phenomenon.
Thus, it is vital to produce this type of report to identify key indicators in economic digitalisation and understand how these dynamics affect the labour market in the Valencian Community.
