Call for papers open for the collection "Contemporary dialogues in global critical theory"

The Critical Theory Research Group of the University of Valencia, within the framework of the DIGLOTEO II project, invites the academic community to participate in a new thematic collection for the journal Humanities & Social Sciences Communications. The deadline for manuscript submissions is October 28, 2026.

Coordinated by Dr. Sabine Heiss and Prof. Benno Herzog, researchers from the Critical Theory Group, this initiative aims to explore the 21st-century social, political, and academic debates that are crucial to the development of our global societies. The collection is directly aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

The special issue seeks to foster a global, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary dialogue among three major traditions of critical thought: left-Hegelianism (Marxist and post-Marxist tradition), post-structuralism, and decolonial and postcolonial theories. Special attention will be given to research that connects the experiences, analyses, and theoretical production of the geopolitical North and South.

Contributions are requested from the Social Sciences and Humanities focusing on contemporary problems and challenges (exclusively historical or purely internal theoretical debates are excluded). Suggested thematic lines include:

  • The reproduction of social inequalities and injustices (racism, sexism, and class discrimination).

  • Systems of social pathologies and structural foundations of injustice.

  • Alternatives to existing systems of injustice.

  • Processes of social change, transformation, and the conditions of social movements.

  • Contemporary regressive trends (nationalism, populism, and militarism).

  • Cross-dialogues among the different critical traditions mentioned.

Submission Information: The call for papers is now open. Articles must be submitted through the online system of the journal Humanities & Social Sciences Communications, which operates under an Open Access model. Accepted texts will initially be published as an Article in Press (with a permanent DOI) to guarantee early access prior to final editing.
