Historically, critical social theory has neglected the colonial question. This neglect can mean at least three things: firstly, that critical theory has not addressed the specific question of the process of colonial domination suffered by the countries of the global south since the 15th century; secondly, that critical theory has not analysed the forms of coloniality, domination, ideology or in general social problems typical of the societies of the global south; thirdly, that critical theory, like any other element of knowledge produced in the West, presents a claim to universality of concepts that in reality are merely Western. That is to say, that critical theory passes off as universal the problems it analyses in Western society, as well as the criteria from which it criticises these problems.
The project aims to:
1. Map the reception of critical theory of society in Latin America.
2. Trace elements of the decolonial perspective present in current critical theory.
3. To study the type of critique that the authors of decolonial thought formulate against the critical theory of society of the Frankfurt School.
