Joan Sanchis, a researcher at Econcult (University of Valencia), has taken part in the investigative programme PD Note, broadcast by South Korean public broadcaster MBC (Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation).
In the special report, entitled “The Four-Day Work Week: Giving You Back a Day”, Sanchis analyses the feasibility of reducing working hours based on the results and experience of the pilot programme carried out in the city of Valencia. The documentary explores how reducing working time can provide responses to the culture of excessive working hours and “time poverty” in South Korea while maintaining productivity.
The Valencia pilot programme showed that the four-day week improved citizens’ well-being while also encouraging cultural consumption, a dimension directly linked to Econcult’s field of research.
Joan Sanchis’s participation in the documentary highlights the international interest and reach that the Valencia experience continues to generate in the global debate on reducing working time and the future of work.
