Background

The Research Unit in Cultural Economics was established in the Department of Applied Economics of the Universitat de València in 1999. It was recognised as a research group by the Universitat de València with reference GIUV2016-297. Since then, it has developed an ongoing research work in the field of Cultural Economics, becoming one of the reference centres at national and international level. Since the middle of the first decade of the 21st century, its internationalisation process has been remarkable, collaborating with projects both in Latin America and Europe.

Between 2011 and 2014, the unit was part of the Inter-University Institute for Local Development. However, since 1 January 2015 it has once again been part of the Department of Applied Economics. Econcult is a heterogeneous network of researchers from different universities and external collaborators, coordinated by Professor Pau Rausell. Since 2007, Professor Raül Abeledo has been responsible for the development of European projects and in 2014 Ramón Marrades joined as a tenured researcher, until 2017 when he was hired as strategic director of La Marina de València. Researchers and collaborators such as Salvador Carrasco, Vicente Coll, Luís Vila, Josep Sorribles, Rafael Boix, Julio Montagut, Francisco Marco-Serrano, Carolina Asuaga, Leandro Valiati, Reyes Marzal, collaborators such as Julia Sorribes, Adolf Boluda, Antonio Ramos Murphy, Antonio Martinez, Francesc Cabañes or PhD students such as Chwan Li, Sigrid Yanara, Amparo Civera, Vicent Arastey, Oscar Blanco, have participated in different projects and processes. The research unit also frequently receives researchers from various European, Asian and Latin American universities.
