Class 13 April 10:00
César wanted to start his class by telling personal anecdotes that have happened to him throughout his professional career so that the students would know more than just the theory of his practical case.
He wanted to emphasise the three circle model of the family business system, which deals with the ownerhip family and business, making special mention of external employees, classified in the circle as non-family members, implying that their objective is only the company. In this respect, he emphasises that:
"The family business is a people's business" - César Pardo.
He then discussed the contributions that a family business makes to an external individual: people companies, long-term projects, agility, proximity, clean vision and conflict between the family branches; implying that family businesses are people companies because they are closer to you through the transmission of their values and by welcoming you as part of them.
For his part, he wanted to mention that a family business does not only look for short term projects and surprise in the market, but prefers to carry out long term projects without pressure. This does not imply, said Pardo, that family businesses are not flexible, but on the contrary, they show their agility by taking quicker decisions and being more accessible to ownership. He stressed that:
"It is very important in the management of a family business that there is a person outside the family and ownership" - César Pardo.
Continuing along these lines, César spoke about the conflicts that arise in a family business and that it is essential to separate the roles between ownership and management. The teacher showed the students certain skills for working in a family business:
- Emotional self-awareness
- Self-regulation
- Self-motivation
- Empathy
- Social skills
To end his session, Logopost's CEO wanted to point out the importance of knowing how to work in a team, not only in a family business, but also in a non-family business.
Class 13 April 12:00
The psychology teacher Pilar González and Cristian Ferrer, who works at Capgemini, have carried out the mentoring session, this time they have focused on how to elaborate a curriculum and show the Linkedin application.
Cristian Ferrer wanted to show the students the importance of creating a good CV by showing them tools such as Canva and letting them do it themselves and asking questions. Afterwards, he wanted to show the importance and value of the Linkedin network as a means of reaching managers and employers more easily, advising the students that creating a profile on this network can help them to make themselves known in a better way.
The teacher closed the session with an emphasis on the selection processes within a family business, teaching the characteristics that are taken into account both in an interview and when viewing a CV.
In next week's session, 27th April, we will have the presence of María Beltrán (FIBAC), and Pilar González, lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology.
