The Chair of Family Business of the University of Valencia is pleased to announce the course "Employment and professional development in Family Business (5th Edition)", designed to empower students in their search for employment and professional development. 1. Objectives

Family businesses (FB) play a fundamental role in the economy and employment in our country. According to the latest report of the Family Business Institute (2015), they account for 66% of employment in Spain and generate 57% of wealth.

Therefore, it is likely that most university graduates will develop their professional careers in family-owned and managed companies.

The general objectives to be achieved are:

  • To know what and how are the FB, the different agents involved in it, its importance in the economy and in the occupation of the country, and its strengths and weaknesses.
  • Understand the profile of the culture of the FE and know how to fit into the labour market in order to contribute value and be able to develop professionally.
  • Acquire the ability to improve employability in order to effectively manage one's career.
  • Generate opportunities for success in achieving employment in a FB
  • Enhance personal talent with expert advice to create value as a worker in the family business.
  • Develop innovation through positive conflict management in the FB.

2. Competences

This course is designed for those who work or wish to work in family businesses, as well as for those who assume responsibilities in them. Through this programme, participants will acquire a solid understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of family businesses, learn how to develop professionally in this environment, contributing to their competitiveness and development, and collaborate with business families to facilitate processes of growth, succession and long-term survival.

The aim is to develop competences such as:

4. DESCRIPTION / METHODOLOGY

The course has recognised credits for university participation in the University of Valencia.

The course will be carried out online through the virtual classroom of the Universitat de València where the available materials (slides, manuals, etc...) will be available. Students will have to connect synchronously via videoconference through the virtual classroom on the days scheduled for this course and carry out the activities proposed by the teaching staff within the established deadlines.

5. REQUIREMENTS / EVALUATION

In order to obtain the certificate, students must pass the course and for this, they will have to attend at least 80% of the videoconference sessions and carry out the programmed activities within the deadlines established by the teaching staff.

The course will be taught by:

  • Alejandro Escribá Esteve, University Professor in the Department of Business Management at the Faculty of Economics and Director of the Chair of Family Business at the University of Valencia.
